What Is a Dental Implant?
An implant is a total tooth replacement that consists of 3 parts:
- Implant: All our teeth have a root that anchors the tooth in place. The implant replaces the tooth root.
- Crown: This replaces the part of the tooth used for smiling and chewing food and is the part you can see.
- Abutment: The abutment connects the crown to the implant and cannot be seen.
The Implant Process
A lot of this can sound scary and painful. Amazingly, we have some patients say that it’s easier than a cleaning, and many never report experiencing pain. The process is pretty simple:
- Consultation: We want to meet you and see how we can help you!
- Guide: This can be done at your consultation. We want you to have the best placed implant possible! We use a guide to do this. A simple 3D scan of your mouth allows us to create a guide that allows us to place your implant as precisely as possible. This allows for a suture free implant placement, faster healing, and a safer placement while avoiding important anatomy. In our opinion, it’s the only way to get an implant placed, and it’s INCLUDED in the $1998 fee. If you see another office about getting an implant placed, make sure you ask if a guide is INCLUDED, because it almost never is. It’s an EXTRA fee, typically about $700 all by itself!
- Placement: The placement typically only takes about 10 minutes. It’s really fast and precise because we use a guide! We schedule extra time to make sure you don’t have any further questions and to go over instructions, but the actual placement is usually 10 minutes or less. We only need “Novocaine” to do the placement. We do give the implant 3 months to become part of the body.
- Impression: After the 3 months, we scan for the crown and abutment. This part is annoying but easy!
- Seat: We seat the crown and abutment. It’s then ready to be used at that moment!! Once again, this part is annoying but easy!
